Welcome to IBJ Media’s inaugural Indiana 250, a list of the most influential and impactful leaders across the state—primarily in business but also in not-for-profits, government, philanthropy and community organizations. Most often, the people on this list have been involved across many sectors of their communities—using their influence and experience in business to help foundations, arts organizations, economic development groups and more do their jobs even better.
We want to celebrate the work of these outstanding Hoosiers—including those who have spent entire careers serving the state and its people and those who are just getting started but are already making an impact.
In these profiles, you’ll find details about the careers of these 250 leaders—but also read their advice for young people, get a peek into their leadership philosophies as well as their anxieties and challenges, and learn a few fun things as well, like what song they’d want played if they were a professional baseball player walking up to bat.
But for us, the Indiana 250 is more than a directory or an honor roll. It’s a way to help Hoosiers in one part of the state learn about leaders and organizations in other areas of the state. We are, after all, one Indiana and we are stronger economically and socially when we can bind together our strengths while always respecting our differences.
This book is also part of a larger effort at IBJ Media to help foster statewide economic vitality and collaboration.
Those in central Indiana might know us best as the publisher of Indianapolis Business Journal, a weekly newspaper and daily news site about the Indianapolis region. But we have long served statewide readers with Indiana Lawyer, a bi-weekly newspaper and news site covering the state’s courts and legal community. And last year, IBJ Media acquired Inside INdiana Business, the statewide business news TV, radio and digital media company founded by Gerry Dick in 2000.
Through these well-respected brands, IBJ Media intends to continue growing our statewide footprint and impact. You will increasingly see us covering and visiting Evansville, Fort Wayne, South Bend, the Region, West Lafayette, Bloomington, Terre Haute and so many other communities. We want to connect in ways that will help all Hoosiers grow and prosper.
You can learn more about how we created the list by clicking on “selection process,” but in short, we considered recommendations from across the state and sought advice from key business and community leaders. Ultimately, the selections were made by IBJ Media’s news leaders.
We celebrated these leaders at an event July 21 at an exclusive reception on the 47th floor of Salesforce Tower, an event made possible by our generous Indiana 250 sponsors.
Thank you to our host sponsor Salesforce and our title sponsors CareSource, Ice Miller and Pacers Sports and Entertainment. Your support is greatly appreciated.
Thanks as well to our premier sponsors: Bank of America, Indiana University, Key Bank and Marian University.
